Who counts in College Park?

Everyone living in College Park on April 1

Students living on and off-campus

All students who live in College Park on or off campus are counted in College Park. It doesn’t matter if you go home for breaks.

Students who live in university-sponsored housing do not have to worry about filling out a census form, UMD will include you in their count.

Students who live off campus should choose 1 roommate to be responsible for completing the census form for the household.

Individuals and Families including infants and children

Historically, children 0-5 have been undercounted meaning they miss out on resources for a whole ten years! This can result in:

Overcrowding in schools
Insufficient funding for vital programs like Children’s Health Insurance Programs (CHIP)
Insufficient funding for schools and programs like school lunches

It is important that everyone in the household is counted, including renters or extended family members.

Non-U.S. Citizens

Every person residing in the U.S., regardless of citizenship, needs to be counted and represented in their communities.

The U.S. Census Bureau is legally bound to keep your information confidential.

U.S. Census workers take a lifelong pledge to keep individual information confidential under penalty of fines and jail time
The U.S. Census Bureau is not allowed to share any individual information with any other government agency
