Job Title: Communication and Graphic Design Coordinator Reports To: Communications & Events Manager
FLSA Status: Exempt
The purpose of this position is to perform a variety of responsible professional and technical duties in support of the Office of Communications & Events. The work involves ensuring successful promotion, attendance & coordination of all events and programs. Additionally, providing support with all marketing and communication needs related to the City of College Park programs and services, which may include: the design of various City publications, guides, digital mediums, and collateral; article writing and editing; maintaining and developing the City's social media strategy.
The person must exercise considerable independence and be well versed in methods to communicate reliable, consistent, and timely information about the programs, procedures, responsibilities, and activities of the City and the City Manager's office.
The job works under general supervision, independently developing work methods and sequences.
Duties and Responsibilities
The functions listed below represent the majority of the time spent working in this class. Management may assign additional roles related to the type of work of the class as necessary.
Designs and lays out various City publications, including but not limited to newsletters, guides, mailers, brochures, flyers, budget documents, handbooks, and other related documents.
Designs the City collateral, including but not limited to apparel, promotional items, signs, banners, event signage, and more.
Ensures that all public-facing information from the City is uniformly branded and designed.
Attends meetings and presentations as directed and prepares pre-event materials and post-event communications as necessary.
Produces and edits stories, news articles, web articles, social media messages, FAQs, and other forms of communication pertaining to City programs and activities.
Maintains and develops the City's social media strategy and communications, including a Facebook page, Twitter feeds, biogs, etc.
Writes executive communications such as speeches, memos, op-eds, and other internal and constituent correspondence.
Writes and creates brochures, pamphlets, reports, newsletters, and other publications such as the Residents' Directory, as required.
Assists with editing, format, and content of City websites, assuring uniformity, clarity, and a coordinated image.
Evaluates effectiveness and utilization of communication vehicles and recommend changes as needed.
Researches and prepares various reports, communications, special projects, correspondence, and other documents, including design, development, composition, content, and style.
Ability to speak and write clearly and concisely to various audiences and for different purposes.
Exercises considerable independence and is well-versed in methods to communicate and design reliable, consistent, and timely information about the City's programs, procedures, responsibilities, and activities.
Creates and edits videos.
May assist Events Planner occasionally
Provide support during city-sponsored functions and events Performs related work as assigned.

Outstanding verbal and written communication skills with fluency in English. Reads procedures manuals and charts to solve practical problems, such as routine office equipment operating instructions; composes some reports, forms, and business letters, with the proper format; speaks compound sentences using regular grammar and word form.
Knowledge of social media, website development, print media, and other communication techniques. Ability to speak and write clearly and concisely to a range of different audiences and for various purposes. Must be able to deal effectively with all levels of City government, residents, staff, officials from State and local government, and community agencies

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:
A bachelor's degree in communications, graphic design, public relations, marketing, or other related fields; or a minimum of three years of professional experience in communications, marketing, or graphic design any equivalent combination of training and experience.
A minimum of one year of professional experience in a municipal or public agency environment that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
Advanced knowledge of graphic arts, design, and marketing.
Professional-level skills in computer use, including but not limited to Microsoft Office, email, web-based applications, and keyboard skills.
