On April 26, 2019 during the City's Arbor Day celebration, the City of College Park was awarded as a Tree City USA for the 30th consecutive year! Forest Ranger Laura Donaldson of the Maryland Department of Natural Resources - Forest Service, announced the designation and awarded the 2018 honor to Mayor Pro Tem Monroe Dennis on behalf of the City. Tree City USA is part of the Arbor Day Foundation, and is awarded to cities that demonstrate excellence in urban forestry management.
The City's 2019 Arbor Day celebration was held at St. Andrews Episcopal Church in Old Town College Park. At the event, there were residents from each district who attended and read poems or sang in celebration. The College Park Nursery School also came out to celebrate the event and performed a poem about trees. An American Linden tree was planted where a previous (and sickly) Linden tree had stood.
