[ARCHIVED] Summer Camp Scholarships

M-Power Tools summer camp

The City of College Park’s annual summer camp scholarship applications are now open!

Youth (rising K-12) who reside in the City of College Park are eligible to apply. Scholarships are granted up to a maximum of $400 per student. Students are eligible to receive a scholarship for one camp session only. Priority is given to youth who did not receive a City of College Park scholarship in previous years. In the past two years, the City extended the use of the scholarship to include camps hosted by Prince George’s County Department of Parks & Recreation and Prince George’s Community College. The option is available again for summer 2023.

Apply here.

For updated information and details on camps offered by each organization, please visit their individual websites listed below. Please note that updated summer camp information may not be available currently. Some camps are still finalizing plans for the summer. Please check the websites frequently for updates.

Frequently Asked Questions:

  1. I have more than one child.  Can each child be awarded a scholarship?
Yes. However, please fill out a separate application for each child.
  2. My child is home-schooled, can I still apply?
Yes, if the child is entering grade K-12 (2023-2024 school year) and lives in the City of College Park.
  3. Do I need to register with the UMD camp or will you?
When you are contacted by the City of College Park that your child has received a scholarship, you will receive information about the next step of registering your child for the camp.
  4. How will I be contacted that I have or have not received the scholarship?
You will be contacted by email or U.S. mail with the addresses you provided on your application about your child’s application status.
  5. What if my child cannot make the camp after we register?
If after registering, your child is unable to attend the camp, you need to contact us at least 2 weeks in advance so another child may be able to use the funds towards his/her camp. If you do not notify us in advance, you will not be eligible for a scholarship for at least the next year.

If your child does not attend the camp and you receive a refund, you must notify our office immediately. The scholarship funds must be returned to the City of College Park. Checks may be mailed to:

City of College Park, Finance Office
     ATTN: Gary Fields
     7401 Baltimore Avenue Suite 201
     College Park, MD 20740

If you receive a refund and fail to return the scholarship to the City, your child will not be eligible for future scholarship opportunities.
  6. What if the camp my child wants to attend has a waitlist or the camp is canceled?
You will need to contact our office for other potential opportunities. If the camp is offering a refund, funds must be returned to the City (see question 5). If the camp is offering a credit, please notify our office so that we can have a record of how your child intends to use the credit and which camp they will attend.
  7. Who can I contact with questions?
Latisha Moore, Executive Assistant with the City of College Park’s Department of Youth, Family and Senior Services will be happy to answer any questions you may have. Email: lmoore@collegeparkmd.gov; Phone: 240-487-3550.
  8. Do you provide transportation to the camp?
No, you are responsible for the transportation to and from the summer camp.
  9. The camp my child wants to attend is more than $400, can I still apply?
Yes. However, if a camp costs more than $400, you are responsible for paying the difference.
  10. If the camp I choose is less than $400 can I put the remaining monies towards a second camp?
No, only one scholarship per child is awarded up to $400.
  11. May I register and pay for my child’s camp on my own and be reimbursed by the City?
Yes. You may still apply for a scholarship if you have already registered and paid for a camp.  If a scholarship is awarded, our office with contact you with options to be reimbursed for your camp session payment, up to $400.
