College Park, MD, August 8, 2022 – The City of College Park is pleased to announce that Mayor Patrick L. Wojahn was named to the Steering Committee of Climate Mayors, a network of about 500 mayors across the nation committed to climate leadership and progress in their cities. The Climate Mayors purpose is to drive city-led climate action to create more sustainable, equitable, and healthy cities for all. “It is critical that mayors use our voices to highlight the urgency of climate change and continue to lead by reducing the negative impacts our cities have on the planet” said Mayor Patrick Wojahn.
Mayor Wojahn joins seven other new members of the Steering Committee. As a new member, Mayor Wojahn will work to catalyze membership and showcase the impactful work of Climate Mayors cities addressing and preparing for climate impacts.
Following former President Donald Trump’s announcement of his plans to withdraw the U.S. from the landmark Paris Agreement in 2017, more than 300 mayors joined the Climate Mayors coalition and pledged to continue working toward meeting the goals of the Agreement within their cities. The bipartisan network has since grown to nearly 500 mayors, demonstrating support for climate action in a wide range of cities throughout the U.S.
