Green-Move-Out Dont-Dump - Donate!

Help others and keep reusuable goods out of the landfill. Here is a quick list of possible donation options where you can drop-off or schedule pickups (if available). Pitch in while you move-out!

Furniture, Clothing, Food & Item Donation

For items in good condition

Drop-Off located at the South Campus Dining Hall; for details and accepted items, go to reslife.umd.edu/terptoterprestore.

Department of Resident Life

Contact UMD ResLife (hairfiel@umd.edu) about possible donation/recycling areas for unwanted items during move-out.

Campus Pantry

Drop-Off located at the South Campus Dining Hall; accepts all un-opened, non-perishable food.


Green Drop

Call 888-944-3767 or visit their website to schedule a pickup.

Local Thrift/Donation Stores

Donate clothing, furniture or other items to one of our area’s local thrift stores or donation sites like Habitat for Humanity (ReStore), A Wider Circle, and Lupus Foundation of America (Value Village). Contact them for more information.

Local Online Groups

There are various student or community online groups/sites (like freecycle) to give away or sell items. UMPD offers a safe space (Safe Terp Trade Zone) to conduct business. Call the University of Maryland Police Department at 301.405.3555 for details.

Calling all City of College Park Off-Campus Student Rentals!

This is the last opportunity to dispose of items without incurring a collection fee for bulk items (information about the City's Bulk Trash Ordinance can be found here). The Public Works facility will be open for residents and off-campus student rentals to drop off bulky trash, white goods, electronics recycling, brush, and yard trim. In addition, we will accept a small number of light bulbs and tubes; household batteries; and block Styrofoam.

Items brought during cleanup event do not count toward your bulk trash numbers, and there is no fee for appliances or electronics.

You must be a resident of the City of College Park and bring an ID with city address, or a copy of your current lease as proof of city residency to participate.

Wood mulch will also be available, you don’t need to be a resident in order to purchase. Wood mulch is $12.00 per cubic yard. (Prices include tax). Smartleaf® compost is SOLD OUT!

THESE ITEMS WILL ALSO BE ACCEPTED DURING SPRING CLEANUP:

  • Fluorescent light bulbs and tubes (small quantities) – must be intact. Includes LED lamps, U-shaped or circular fluorescent lamps, High Intensity Discharge (HID) lamps, Ultra Violet (UV) lamps, Incandescent Bulbs, Halogen or Compact Fluorescent Lamps (CFL’s).
  • Household batteries for recycling (small quantities). This includes rechargeable batteries such as Li-Ion, Ni-Cd, Ni-MH, Ni-Zn; Single-use alkaline batteries such as AA, AAA, 9V, C, D button cell, and lithium primary. No damaged batteries; no automotive batteries.
  • Block Styrofoam for recycling (Only large Styrofoam blocks and foam coolers accepted. No peanuts, or foam containers).

NOT ACCEPTED: Bricks, concrete, rock, hazardous materials such as shingles, propane tanks, car batteries, paint, etc.
