City Elections

For Immediate Release:

City of College Park Announces Final 2019 Election Results

COLLEGE PARK, MD, November 7, 2019 - The City of College Park has released the final results of the November 5, 2019 City of College Park Mayor and Council election during which 2,092 residents cast their ballots.  These certified final results include absentee and validated provisional ballots.

Of the three candidates in the Mayoral election, Patrick L. Wojahn has been re-elected Mayor for the third time, receiving 1,577 votes.

For each district, the two candidates with the highest number of votes are elected to Council.  The final results and elected Councilmembers are as follows:

District 1, S. M. Fazlul Kabir received 757 votes and Catherine Hope Kennedy, 504 votes;
District 2, P. J. Brennan had 264 votes and Monroe S. Dennis, 240 votes;
District 3, Robert W. Day received 439 votes and John B. Rigg, 463 votes; and
District 4, Maria Mackie had 243 votes and Denise C. Mitchell, 253 votes.

Voters were asked two advisory ballot questions at the polls this year; whether there should be two- or four-year terms, and if the terms are four years, if they should be staggered or run concurrently.  1027 voted in favor of retaining the current two year term versus 935 who voted to extend terms to four years.  1087 voted in favor of staggered terms if four-year terms were enacted, while 782 voted for concurrent terms.

Each elected official serves a two-year term.  The City will host an inauguration for the newly elected officials on Tuesday, December 10 at 7:30 p.m., during the Mayor and Council Regular Meeting at Davis Hall.  We encourage the public to watch the live coverage on the City’s cable channels (Comcast Cable Channel 71 or Verizon Channel 25) or on the City’s website.

The City has 16,723 registered voters and this year’s voter turnout was 12.51%. We thank our City residents who came out to vote.  For the full final results of the 2019 City of College Park Election, please visit the City’s website at www.collegeparkmd.gov.
