SMARTLEAF® compost is a by-product of composting leaves collected from the City and other surrounding jurisdictions. Grass and other vegetative (soft) garden waste are added for nitrogen. The materials are turned to incorporate oxygen and promote even decomposition. SMARTLEAF® is a screened product with particle sizes 5/8 inch or less, making it suitable as a top grade dressing. It is lab tested and has a pH between 7.4 and 8.0.

Wood mulch is made from natural wood waste collected in the City such as branches, tree stumps, sticks, shrubs, vines, etc. A machine called a tub grinder is used to process the wood into a shredded mulch. Using it as the top layer of your planting beds, wood mulch helps to conserve soil moisture and inhibit weed growth.
