Youth and Family Counseling

Mother's testimony of the City's Youth and Family Services

“This service has been a life saver and one of my best discoveries since being granted custody of the kids.” – Aunt of children ages 2, 4, 7, 14

The staff at College Park Youth and Family Services is committed to providing collaborative counseling tailored to individual youth and their family’s needs. Our counseling services are designed to support healthy behaviors, emotional growth and to improve family and peer relationships.  We partner with each family to tailor a course of treatment that fits their particular needs and to create a positive change for their youth, adolescent and family.   We provide a wide range of counseling options for children up to 18 years of age.  When needed, we work with other professionals in the child’s life, such as school staff, psychologists, attend IEP meetings and conduct school visits in order to provide a coordinated approach to help the youth achieve personal success. These counseling services are provided primarily to City of College Park youth and their families.

Families come to our program with their child/ren having challenges with a variety of issues.  While the list below is not comprehensive, we’ve had success with youth experiencing:

 Anxiety/Sadness  Delinquent Behaviors  School Suspensions
 Attention/Focus Difficulties  Challenges Socially  Truancy
 Aggression/Anger  Poor Decision Making  Grief/Loss
 Family Conflict  HIV/AIDS  Separation/Divorce
Self-Harming Behaviors  Bullying Behavior  LGBT Issues

All counseling services are confidential and are personalized to the unique needs of the individual client family.

We have found the following research-based therapy models to be effective in our work with youth and their families: relationship enhancement, sand tray, attachment-based theraplay, and child-centered play therapy (for children aged 3-10).    All of our professional staff hold advanced degrees.  Master level graduate interns are in their second year of their advanced degree program and are supervised by the professional staff.

Our bright, modern, child-friendly office and staff provide a welcoming environment which helps families feel relaxed and comfortable.

It’s easy to get started.  To start the process or to answer any questions you may have, give us a call 240-487-3550.   After completing the phone intake with one of our therapists.  you are welcome to print out our Welcome Packet (available below) and bring it in when you and your family come in for your first appointment.  Otherwise you can complete the Welcome Packet by coming 15 minutes before the appointment
